Yesterday, I posted on The Edit's issue this week and after mentioning that the piece on Aerin Lauder was a must-read, I received several notes from C&C readers, expressing your adoration for her (one an old male suitor of hers!) and the success she has rightfully earned with her own brand and vision. In this piece, she discusses her initial desire to start her own lifestyle and beauty brand, despite her role as Creative Director at her grandmother's beauty company, Estée Lauder (now a $11B company). She emphasizes the importance of breathing her own authenticity into the company's identity, while acknowledging the complexity of her life as mother, wife, philanthropist and business woman. AERIN has expanded in short time into a lifestyle company, with product offerings from a beautiful shade of rose balm lipstick, to high end home decor and objets. If you spend time on her website, you'll understand quickly that not only is Aerin Lauder's palate inherently elegant and simple, she is able to beautifully craft a narrative for each product such as this release of her new scent Rose De Grasse.
The '70s Are Having a Moment
This week's The Edit is spectacular. From sultry suede à la Gucci worn by Malgosia Bela in her editorial photographs (see here), to the spotlight on this saddle bag, the '70s are quietly having a moment. A must read in this issue? The piece on Aerin Lauder and the making of (another) Lauder empire. Read here.
OK, fine...
Noir
I love this black powder room by Miles Redd. It's bold, masculine, modern and moody, while the high ceilings and sconces add an understated elegance. I'm on a fern kick right now ever since my friend Betsy's wedding; I had never seen ferns presented so beautifully until I saw her bouquet and table arrangements. See more of Miles' portfolio, here.
Wide Brim
I've been sick as a dog for the past 48 hours and all I can think of is sunshine and the sea. Oh, and this hat would compliment it all quite nicely.
Tassel
I love a good one piece, not to mention proper placement of a tassel. This little number by Eres does the trick. Shop here.
Nudes & Nantucket: Nathan Coe
Welcome to my mild obsession with Nathan Coe. Nathan is a photographer hailing from Nantucket, (or better known as ACK to those that frequent the isle). Although he has lived on the island for over 7 years, he spent his formative years studying photography & media in Gloucestershire, England. His work primarily consists of nudes, aerials and fashion editorial, however I'm personally swayed by his talented lens when it comes to the female form. His photography has such a sensual, raw and ethereal quality. You can also find his work in Architectural Digest and Town & Country, among other publications. To view more of his work, visit here and be sure to follow him on Instagram.
Simply Lovely
Diptyque's Roses Candle was highlighted in W, and I could't agree more with the nod of affection. Its scent is truly lovely. My sister gifted me with a collection of Diptyque votives for Christmas and this scent is right on par with Cyprès; it brings my mind to a wall of roses on Nantucket in the summertime. See what all the fuss is about for yourself.
SoMA
I've been eyeing this project on Jack London and Bryant for several months as the space went through a dramatic renovation and is across the street from my office. After bribing the contractors with coffee on my way to the office, they gave me a tour of the space, a spec project in the form of modern commercial space that will be available for lease in just another week or two. This has got Restoration Hardware written all over it - a perfect space for an art gallery, PR agency headquarters or architect's base camp. Prior to the renovation, this space was dilapidated and desperate for attention. I've thoroughly enjoyed working in the SoMA neighborhood of San Francisco and love seeing when projects such as these come to life.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck
Above is an excerpt from Mark Manson's article on exactly how it reads: 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck.' If you haven't read it, and are comfortable with expletives, then get on board. It's bold, it's provocative and witty, but also insanely relatable. Life is really too short to sweat the small stuff and Mark's article is on point for me especially at this juncture in my life. See the article in full, here. Another read I've found quite relevant especially in the dating world is this one. Some great material to set your Monday Mantra and intentions for the week. Enjoy!
