Come Together

Despite all of the "#SochiProblems" that perplex and pester, I am really enjoying the Winter Olympics. While I am not constantly fixated to the television, I have enjoyed watching several of the competitions, namely the downhill skiing and figure skating. For me, the Winter Olympics are a bit reminiscent of the fun had during the America's Cup. It is a time to come together with friends new and old, while marveling over the beauty, grace and grit of these accomplished (and often very young!) athletes. Cozy up in your best sweats with a hot toddy or two, and remind yourself of all the possibilities we have in the world. Applaud those that go after their dreams and ponder your own. Life is beautiful.

What do you enjoy most about the Winter Olympics?

At Play

Lake Tahoe_SlimThe above is a photograph taken in 1959 by Slim Aarons (known for his photographs of the who's who of the jet-set era), in Lake Tahoe, California. I've spent the last few days enjoying some snowy R&R in Lake Tahoe with my sister which has been heavenly. I hear summer in Lake Tahoe is wonderful - some will argue even more enjoyable than winter! As my friend Heather Clawson says, Bon Weekend!

One&Only

one-only-resorts4Supermodel (and San Francisco native), Christy Turlington is the new face for advertisements from the luxury resort company One&Only Resorts. The shoot was done in black in white, in addition to a series of short films. ('Serenity' is my favorite - hot damn is she perfection). I've only had the pleasure of experiencing the One&Only Palmilla Resort in Los Cabos which was heaven on earth, (although my favorite in Cabo is without question Las Ventanas). I hear the One&Only Reethi Rah Resort in the Maldives is incredible.

The Nike Bowl

Well, it certainly was some game on Sunday. Not only did the Seahawks crush the Broncos (which was undoubtedly more painful to watch than my rosé hangover the next morning), but Nike prevailed too.

Both the Seahawks and the Broncos wore signature looks by the sportswear manufacturer, each designed 15 years apart. In 1997, Nike redesigned the Broncos uniform, the first time Nike had done that for an N.F.L. team. Before the 2012 season, the Seahawks had their own uniform overhaul with the mostly blue (college navy is the official color name) and patterned green (action green) apparel you see today. Call me a uniform prude, but I'm having a hard time adjusting to these loud and obstreperous colors. Guess I'm a sucker for the classics....

Take Me Back...

Mexico1jpgmexico6mexico4mexico3jpgMexico9mexico2mexico10mexico7 mexico13mexico12mexico5Mexico8One of my most memorable trips is actually my first solo trip I took last spring. Feeling bold, I signed up for a yoga retreat hosted by my two favorite yoga instructors held at Verana, a secluded luxury jungle hotel in the tiny town of Yelapa, Mexico. While the photos I snapped above certainly attempt to convey the magical color palette the resort and surrounding landscape offered, the experience was inexplicable.

To this day, the trip still feels like a slice of heaven that at last, defined any notion of "paradise" I may have had in my head. I woke every morning just as the sun crept over the lush mountains, greeted with a tray by my doorstep with coffee and a morning nibble. By day, we practiced three hours of yoga in a straw palapa, with visions of dolphins and whales in the background and the most exquisite, fresh meals throughout the day. As night fell in the jungle, we were again treated to the most delicious feasts, tequila tastings, dancing and night swims as candles flickered around us and the jungle hummed with night creatures.

I highly recommend Verana to anyone looking for a getaway and love sharing details from my trip. Please contact C&C with any curiosities: citrusandcedars@gmail.com

Just What the Doctor Ordered...

LakeTahoeLast week may have been a "short" work week but oh my, was it long. On Friday, I jaunted up to Tahoe for some winter fun with friends. The weekend called for a little creativity given the lack of snow, thus we spent Sunday kayaking on the lake. From the moment we launched on the beach, I couldn't stop grinning ear to ear. Between the fresh mountain air and pleasant sunshine, my hangover was rapidly cured from hot tub libations the night prior and it was re-affirmed how powerful the natural landscape can be. Nature truly is a cure.

The Darling Duo

I loved seeing this bit in the NY Times featuring Lee and Morty Kaufman, the adorable real life couple who star in the unscripted Swiffer product ads. The ads have always made me smile since they first started to air and I think they are simply two very precious people who are so blessed with a palpable love, and now, the surprising success of a clever commercial.

Watch one of the commercials here.
