APT with LSD
I always look forward to Lauren Santo Domingo's "APT with LSD" column on Vogue.com and particularly enjoyed reading her most recent feature which showcases Rebecca de Ravenel's apartment in New York City. Having spent a great deal of time in the Bahamas, her style is a cool blend of Bahamian vintage infused with many traditional elements: upholstered sofas in bright florals with navy piping, rattan dining chairs huddled around a modern white lacquered table, a blue and white patio retreat amidst a lush canopy of ferns and tropical plants, all the while, the apartment is beautifully dusted with sentimental trinkets. Rebecca is able to convey a story about many of the items in her apartment, many of which are rooted in a deep family history or unique memory.
Catching the Drift
A dear friend of mine has a lovely collection of driftwood she keeps on her bedroom balcony that I greatly admire. When I saw this photo it made me think of her (not to mention the topiary drew me in). I love the organic quality of this piece - so beautiful and functional! The image is from a collection of photos from Steven Gambrel's own home in Sag Harbor.
It's So True...
Preston Davis' post yesterday hit a chord - why is it that French women make it look so easy? Not to mention the French editors...They trot around in their lean figures sporting perfectly tailored trousers, over-sized oxfords sans makeup with undone natural hair, yet appear so alluring and cool. The above montage is a little inspiration as I clean out the cobwebs in my closet for Fall and Winter. Mostly, it's just getting me excited for the colder weather during the holiday season. First on the shopping list: these black suede booties (top right) or anything Aquazzura.
Wes Anderson & A Halloween Horror
Ed Norton hosted SNL this past weekend and did a great job for his first time hosting. For anyone that has seen Wes Anderson's films (The Royal Tennanbaums, Moonrise Kingdom), you'll appreciate this skit. The parody simply asks what a Wes Anderson film would look like in the form of a Halloween Horror. Alec Baldwin narrates as Ed Norton plays Owen Wilson....brilliant.
